The lyrics to John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People’ song bellowed out in Cholmondeley Room & Terrace at the House of Lords to launch Langley House Trust’s 2017 Annual Review.
It was a poignant moment during the two hour event on 8 November, with the words of the song engraining on everyone’s mind in the packed room overlooking the River Thames. The afternoon was a celebration of ordinary lives in recognition of helping people to live crime-free. The event was hosted by Lord Ramsbotham (former Chief Inspector of Prisons), with guest speakers Judge John Samuels and Minister of Prisons and Probation Sam Gyimah MP.
Over one hundred people attended, including delegates from churches and the care and prison sectors and they were treated to an afternoon of heart-warming client stories, awards to Langley staff and clients and insight into the Criminal Justice System.
Minister Gyimah applauded the work of Langley House and commended Langley’s reconviction rate of less than three percent.
Tracy Wild, Chief Executive of Langley House Trust, said: “The Annual Review Launch is a culmination of the excellent work of Langley’s clients and staff over the past year.
“It was amazing to see so many people at the House of Lords supporting the Trust’s work of effective offender rehabilitation. Our guest speakers provided a wealth of knowledge into the Criminal Justice System and wholeheartedly praised our mission statement of establishing positive foundations so that people can lead crime-free lives and become contributors to society.”
